General Questions

What is stimTV

stimTV™ is an online television Network that uses a patented video engine to present dozens of videos at a time, in the form of short, three-to-five second clips that are pulled from the full-length videos. Just like the 'scan' button on your car radio, stimTV™ automatically plays a non-stop stream of short video clips, allowing you to quickly browse through all the videos on stimTV™’s first two channels: stimTVmusic™ and the new stimTVcinema™ preview.

How does it work?

stimTV™ does the work for you. As soon as you get to the site, the player will launch into 'scan' mode. When a short clip catches your eye, click on it to watch the full-length video (if there is not a full-length video, the 'watch' button will not appear). You can click 'scan' to get back into scan mode at any time.

There is also a history bar to the left of the player window, which shows the latest videos that played, and you can click to watch the long-forms of any of those videos as well.

To search for specific videos, just enter your search criteria into the search bar at the top of the player.

When you find videos you like and want to save on your profile, you can mark them by clicking on the little star below the video in the player (or next to the video in the history bar).

To view or edit your marked videos, click 'my marked videos' at the bottom of the player. From here you can also get the permalinks to your marked videos, or click to watch any of your marked videos.

If you see a video that you want to share with your friends, just click 'share this video' at the bottom of the player to get the permalink for that video.

To switch between stimTV™ channels, click the bar at the bottom of the player that says ‘now watching stimTV’ and choose which channel you want to go to. Each channel has its own homepage on the website, with featured videos, updates, and exclusives.

Each stimTV™ channel also has its own sub-channels. Sub-channels are made up of videos that are the same style or genre, which is determined by our highly-trained ingestors and taggers. You always start out watching a mix of everything on each channel, so to choose a sub-channel, click on the "now watching" bar at the bottom of the player for a list of available programs on that channel.

Any time you are watching a full-length video, you have the option of learning more about that video and artist. Just click the 'more info' button to see photos, bios, and links to relevant websites and online stores.

The stimTV™ community is home to all our user profiles; just click 'my stimTV' to access the community area. Your profile is an easy and fun way to access and share your favorite videos, network with friends, and meet new people! The stimTV™ community is made up of music-lovers, filmmakers, independent bands, record labels, and all kinds of wacky people from all over the world! It is a great place to promote bands, films, record labels, production companies, street teams, upcoming events, and more!

We realize how important your privacy is these days, which is why we made it easy to protect your stimTV™ profile. You can make your profile invisible to the world, or visible only to your friends, simply by changing the settings in the ‘edit my profile’ section.

Check the 'Updates' section on the ‘my stimTV’ page for the latest news and features in the community, as well as periodic tips and tricks on how to make the most of your stimTV™ profile!

stimTV doesn't play!
First you need to make sure you have Flash 8 installed. You can get it here. You also need to make sure you have a fast broadband internet connection. stimTV requires a pretty recent, fast computer. If you are having trouble getting it to play, first try closing any programs you might have running in the background.
The video is choppy!
This is generally caused by one of two things.

1. It may be that your internet connection cannot keep up with stimTV. You need to make sure you have a decent Cable or DSL connection, and you don't have any other downloads happening in the background, or on other computers sharing your connection.

2. It also may be that your computer is not able to process the video fast enough. To help this out, make sure you close any other programs running in the background. Also make sure the video is set on the 300k stream by clicking the small button in the bottom right corner of the player.
What's the point? Why is everything going all fast?
The reason you see a bunch of short clips of videos instead of full-length videos in a row (like you do on any other music television channel or website) is that we want to show you lots of videos in a short amount of time, and let you be the deciding factor for what to watch, not us. It’s personalized television, with automatic channel-surfing. There is no rhyme or reason to the order of clips you see; every time you watch, you will start somewhere different and see a completely different stream of video clips.

From there, it’s easy: just scan until something catches your eye, then click 'watch' to watch it. If you don’t like it, click 'scan' to start scanning again. If you watch the full-length video, stimTV™ will automatically start scanning again when the video is over.
How do I bookmark a video?

To bookmark, or "mark," a video, just click the little star to the bottom right of the video while it’s playing, or under the thumbnail of the clip in the history baron the left of the player.

To access your marked videos, click on 'my marked videos' under the player or log in to your stimTV™ profile under 'my stimTV™'.
Why should I make a stimTV™ profile?
Your stimTV™ profile serves two purposes: to host your marked videos and to meet new people.

Whenever you mark a video on stimTV™, that video is automatically added to your profile. You can log in directly from the player, which we highly recommend, or you can log in under 'my stimTV™'.

To find other people who have marked the same videos that you've marked, click on 'Fans of this Video' next to any video on your profile. You can also search users or browse profiles on the 'my stimTV™' page.
Is stimTV free to use?
Yes stimTV™ is, and will always be, free. We will be including some video advertising in the future, but it won't be any of that annoying stuff where you are forced to watch a 30- second advertisement in order to access the video you clicked on. We don’t believe in forcing anyone to watch anything that they don’t want to. And, just like everything else on stimTV™, advertisements will be presented to you in short clip-form in the stream; it is up to you to click and watch the ads or not.
How can my company advertise on stimTV™?

Video Submissions

How can I get my band's videos on stimTV™?
Submitting your music video to stimTV™ is simple. Click on “submit my video  in the menu, fill out the form, and mail in the video as instructed. We use our own discretion as to whether or not we actually use videos on stimTV™, but as long as the audio is clear and the video quality isn't crappy, we will most likely put it up.
My band is playing in Southern California soon. Can stimTVmusic interview us?
Definitely. Send us details about the show and our interview / film crew will try to set up an interview with your band. If you want, they can also film part of your set and sync up live footage to a CD track of your choice. Any interviews we film can be mailed to you or your record label, manager, or publicist for free, upon request. Email our interview coordinator for more information.
Why do I have to mail in my video? Why can't I just upload it somewhere?
We're working on a way to let people upload videos themselves, but right now the stimTV™ system requires that the video be encoded in a very specific way, and re-compressing a video that has already been compressed for the web makes it look really bad. We don't want that, and if you saw what it would look like, you probably wouldn't want that either.
What if I want stimTVmusic to take my video down?
Just email us with your request, and we will have it off the site within 2 weeks.
